Hot Girls Have Acne! Creating the Acne Representation I Wish to See in Media

Hot Girls Have Acne!

I photographed my breakouts because we don’t see imperfect skin enough!

Exploring self-portraiture in my early years as a photographer really taught me how to love myself and my skin. Over time, I’ve reached a place where I feel confident in my textured skin and acne scars. Following one of my biggest acne flare-ups in years, I chose to decorate my skin with gold stars instead of hiding from the camera. Photographing my acne and textured skin has become an unintentional yearly tradition, and these photographs are some of my favorite self-portraits I have ever taken.

I love creating images that would have been impactful for me to see while growing up.

You don’t have to love your acne, textured skin, or scars. You don’t have to think they’re beautiful, but the best thing you can do is accept them. There’s power in proudly baring what’s often retouched.
